BRYANT BROTHERS WIN AT THE DOWNS!

In the entertaining light middleweight co-feature, Memphis’ Bobby “The Prodigy” Bryant withstood a game
effort from counter-puncher Sean Rawley Wilson, of Omaha, NE, on his way to winning a unanimous 8-round decision.
Judges Russell Naquin, Keith Thibodeaux and Berger all scored the bout 79-72 for Bryant (14-0, 9 KOs). Wilson dropped to
5-8, 1 KO.
Bryant found his groove at the start of the third round. He worked the body and moved on up to the head, including right
hands, which opened a welt under Wilson’s left eye. Bryant worked in effective combinations as well.
Wilson’s best round was the fifth which saw him land three straight left counters to Bryant’s
head. But Bryant shook them off and continued working. Bryant also scored with right uppercuts and digging shots to the body.
It was Bryant’s second bout scheduled for eight rounds, but the first to go the distance. Referee Barry Orgeron deducted
a point from Wilson in the eighth for losing his mouth piece excessively.
“He was awkward. In the first round, I felt him out and worked my jab. In the second, I started working the body
and throwing right hands and right uppercuts. He kept switching from southpaw to orthodox,” Bryant said. “Later
during the fight I saw he was getting tired and I started pacing myself.”
John Bryant, Bobby’s father and trainer, said he was unconcerned over Wilson’s landing those left hooks to
the head.
“I knew after the first punch (Wilson) had no power. It was all arm,” John Bryant said. “Holding and
head butts were what concerned me. I think Bobby could have worked a little more on his body. He did get to see what eight
rounds were about.”
“I learned you can’t get all of them out of there,” Bobby Bryant said. “When I saw he had a tough
chin, I knew I couldn’t expend myself.”
Memphis lightweight Joey Bryant, Bobby’s younger brother, won by TKO at 1:49 of the second round over Ripley, TN’s
Terrance Roy. The bout was scheduled for four.
With the victory, Bryant improved to 2-0, 2 KOs. In dropping his third straight, Roy fell to 9-35, 1 KO.
The 17-year-old Bryant was simply too quick and too strong for the 38-year-old Roy, who grimaced and covered up after each
punch. Bryant’s jabs were piston-like and easily found their target against Roy.
Effective combinations caused Roy to take a knee in the first round. An 18-punch flurry in the second round put Roy down
for the first time in the second. After he rose, a right hand put Roy down again. A combination soon after led Berger to wave
it off.
